sun10:20

we had amazing speeds yesterday! Andreas Böhlen killed it with a 12.0x s time.

today we started with a lot of wind again and nice launch altitudes. speeds were not as low fue zo the more straight west wind direction and more turbulence.

now distance started, but unfortunately we have a break due to rain.

sat 15:46

speed round 2 went really well. wind increased alot and the altutudes were great.

a lot of low 13s and 14s.

but also a lot of missed turns. the b base is hard in lünen.

now fistance tound 2.

sat 12:30

now speed. wind turned a bit more to west again, against launch direction. nice!

altitudes are better and speeds quite fast. but the famous hardest B-Base of F3B is in effect and there are some missed turns.

sat 11:15

duration was the first task. conditions were difficult but doable. someone alsways made the full time. but if you went to sinking air a bit too long, you had a problem. we have south wind, and the wind shadow from the trees is naking the starts tricky. no force until 40-50m and then you get sudden force and have to be careful about line breaks.

currently we are glying duration. the sun is shining strong, temperature tose quickly and we are getting a bit more thermals.

sat 6:50

good morning from Lünen. the airfield awakens…

quick summary saturday:

we started in the morning with sunshine and medium winds. Launch altitudes were very good all day, but the wind increased and made the models heavier throughout the day. In the evening we had a small rainshower, but we completed 2 rounds and started Duration #3.
Duration was quite interesting. In the morning, the small hill and little thermals provided usually enough lift for everybody.
In the afternoon for the second round the thermals were much stronger and moved quicker. Suddenly there were very strong thermals in the lee side. But you needed the courage to fly there directly or the rarer opportunity to get it at the luv side and move with the thermal to lee. Since the dondraft became stronger, the hill did not produce reliable lift for the entire time. Numerous pilots lost a lot of points here.
Distance was both times strongly influenced by thermals. Since flying over the hangars is not allowed (good idea!), the usual flight area is very small directly above you . The other side is in lee but not the area with the strong thermals. Depending on the conditions pilots showed solid results with 22-25 flown legs or tortured their models to get the winning 16th leg. Predictability was not available, but conditions also changed very quickly due to the string crosswind component. Definitely an interesting task to watch but sometimes not the most fun to fly the condition you got dealt.
Speed, especially the second round was very subject to the weather with sometimes even longer periods of very good conditions. But not everyone gets lucky. The planes are high, heavy and fast.
What about team foo?
We have some mixed results with good and very good results for Andreas, Matthias and me (Christian). I had the doubtful honor to open the first speed. I really don’t like it too much, but fortunately, this time I managed to not get a missed turn. Steffen had both times bad conditions for the speed flight but made the best with it. Björn had an interesting distance win with 16legs and is only a little behind at the moment. He, Sebastian and Robbi are just a little bit behind with speed, or one unlucky duration for Robbi) making the difference. Markus had one suboptimal distance flight. Thilo is also making quick progress with great duration and dustance results!

All in all good team results. We try to keep it up tomorrow. Different wind and weather will definitely shake it up again!
We hope that the rain will come later in the day and the cloud base is high enough.
Good night!

competition is over

  1. böhlen
  2. johannes krischke
  3. rassmus krogh petersen

sunday 9:30

we are waiting for the rain to clear and the clouds to rise. not sure if that works.

18:00

duration done. a lot of wind and ballast.

now duration round 3 until the rain arrives.

16:00

speed #2 is done. but we did not make steffens working time due to breaking lines. 0 points is a bitter pill.

we continue with duration. wind is getting a bit stronger still.

14:25

first speed is done with unfortunately one crash.

Team Foo went well, but Christian and Sebastian being overenthusiastic and had to make an extra turn. Snickers was already inserted, so it should be better next time…

12:40

we had a small lunchbreak with incredibly good cake sponsored by Mrs Pettersen. Thank you so much!

Team Foo had two unwanted ground contacts but we were lucky and both aircraft fly again. we are redy for speed which starts this second.

Wind increased a bit, but very manageable. Typically Denmark, we hav a lot of wind close to the ground but it does not increase much with altitude.

10:47

we started the competition punctually at 8:30. the competition layout is the same as with the WC two years ago: Speed course to the West, distance to the east.

We started with duration and less wind than yesterday. conditions were mixed. 10 min were mostly possible, but only at the right spot. everywhere else and it got really hard.

Next is distance. currently running. johannes Krischke started directly with a great flight and speeded down the entire flight. but same here: the good flight area is very narrow.
